Founded more than 10 years ago in Southern Scandinavia, NBRO Running has become one of the coolest and most inspiring running crews on the planet. The performances of its members and the crazy atmosphere that reigns in the club have attracted the attention of the international running community to Copenhagen and the beautiful track of the Østerbro stadium where trains the NBRO. We asked a few questions to the charismatic Anders Roemer, one of the founders of this Viking athletes team.
Start by introducing yourself quickly? Your beginnings in running and NBRO?
My name is Anders, I’m 36 years old, and i live in Copenhagen, Denmark, with my girlfriend Mini and our 3 months old son Billy. I work as a psychologist in a mental hospital and as a DJ in the weekends. I co-founded NBRO Running back in 2010, but I have been running consistently since approx 2001. I completed my first marathon in 2003. My PBs are 15:54 on the 5 km, 33:11 on the 10 km, 1:12:19 on the half and 2:35:04 on the marathon.

How do you select the members of your team?
We don’t actually ; they select themselves by showing up to our training sessions.
Is NBRO a club or a family ?
I little bit of both, I guess. However, we’re not a closed family, as we’ve always welcomed newcomers to the club. And our main reason to exist is the running.
How do very strong runners coexist with beginners in the same club ?
I think this is one of the things that we actually do really well. We all meet and greet before the run, and often we meet after, too… And then we have the parties ofc. I think we all can learn a lot from each other no matter our level.
What do you share outside of running ?
With my NBRO teammates you mean ? Basically everything ; football, music, food, beers, traveling, sneakers…

What’s your relationship with Nike ?
NBRO was founded after I won a Nike competition with a bunch of other guys from Nørrebro ; our part of town. Ever since, The Swoosh has been a friend of the club.

We heard that CPH marathon had the best cheering zone of the world. How did you manage to make the Copenhagen marathon your race ?
Really glad to hear that – we’re proud of that zone!!!
I personally got very inspired by running big marathons across the globe; especially the ones in the US. I thought the atmosphere in Chicago and NY was so intense and inspiring, and I wanted to do something similar in Denmark.
