Conversation with David Kilgore

New-York, USA Words - Lionel Jagorel Pictures - David Kilgore

Hello David, can you introduce yourself quickly?

My name is David Kilgore, I grew up in Florida and now currently live in the Bronx in NYC.  I am an ON-sponsored ultra-distance runner as well as a member of our North America marketing team. I compete in all distances and terrains but lean more into my love for the outdoors and adventure in the Trail and ultra scene. I have made the US trail team a few times in different events and I am a huge fan of sweets (cookies & donuts).

Is it true that you started running to escape crocodiles in Florida?

Haha this is probably the opposite way around I started running when I was young so I could catch them.

Today what makes you run?

A mixture of reasons from the comradery of people, challenging myself to new goals, exploring the beauty of the world around us.  I feel while running out on the trails for many hours you definitely have a connected sense to the natural world around you.  Also, I have been now running for so long I feel it is a bit engrained in me, definitely feels weirder not to run than it does to run.

Is the Rio Marathon course so good that you've run it twice in a row?

It was so good that I was going to do it a third time, but they had a 6 hour cut off and made me get off the course.

Do you have to be a little crazy to run ultra distance?

Maybe a little and I sometimes ponder the decision to do some of these things while I am in the middle. haha
Overall though I think everyone gets their kicks off in different ways in life and this is what I enjoy.

Is it because you're one of the Lostboys that you have this madness?

Maybe a bit! The Lostboys are definitely an awesome group of like-minded people going after their dreams and enjoying the journey.

Can you describe this club to us?

It's more of a collective of people with a passion for running who all found each other through this sport, with an investment on leaving the sport a better place than where we found it as well as bettering ourselves in the process.  Everyone grows up and forgets what it's like to have that burning passion for what you love to do.  We are the people keeping that flame alive.

You also wear the colors of the US national ultra trail team, how does this jersey feel?

Unbelievable, hands down one of the greatest honors of my life and something I have worked towards from the beginning.  Representing your country in something should always be held to the highest honor.

You are sponsored by On. Is Roger Federer a nice guy?

You know it, running on clouds all day! Roger is a great guy actually just had him over for a slumber party last weekend.  In all seriousness, he really is a tremendous person and has been incredibly kind and personable anytime we have crossed paths.

More seriously, which pair do you recommend to cover a maximum of kilometers?

You got to go with the CloudStratus.  Double up that run!

Thanks for your time ! Which Lostboys (or girls) should we interview for our next portraits?

I would say one of the Lukes! Luke McCambley aka the Orange Runner or Luke Morton. Check em out!
